I subscribed to a "bunch" share 2 years ago and received delivery at the Dupont location (16th and P). As far as location goes, it couldn't have been closer to my apartment, which was across the street. The season ran 19 weeks, which I suppose is pretty close to standard, though some offer three 8/week seasons, and you can opt for each. Leigh Hauter was the farmer and he was nothing but nice. He was always on time and very helpful. This share did not include fruit, as that would cost extra. I did however get farm fresh eggs every week, which were incredibly good and you could tell they were fresh from chicken. I found that the variety was bit to be desired, as there was often a lot of the same, less "interesting" vegetables and the lettuce was often of poor quality. I understand the difficulty in farming and all the variables that can lead to problems or just the opposite, great produce. I chose not to continue with this CSA as I had moved and it was no longer convenient. I would recommend the share to someone who is looking to do their first CSA and wants to be challenged to cook things with whatever they get that week.

The most amazing farm...their products are very fresh and their beef has been the best that I've tasted.

I'm a huge fan of Larrilland farms. It's a drive to get out there, but once you do, the choices! I went over the weekend and was up to my eyeballs in tomatoes, blackberries, peaches, apples and raspberries. Their red barn also sells canning supplies, cheeses, fudge, jams, etc... Prices are great, too. I got 20+ pounds of tomatoes and a tray of blackberries for $20! They try to have a good rotation of foods available, different kinds of tomatoes, fruits, veggies, etc... and their website and phone lines are always up to date. The only bathrooms on site are port-a-potties and the staff at the various locations are usually bored teenagers, but nice bored teenagers. Just make sure you're actually picking ripe peaches (unlike me) and you'll be fine.

Even' Star has a focus on heirlooms and varieties particularly suited for our climate. They are very thoughtful about what they grow. Summer has delicious tomatoes, eggplants, and peppers that really stand out, winter has terrific greens, radishes, and the most amazing varieties of sweet potatoes. The farm publishes a book of recipes centered around the unique varieties that they grow.

We love GCF. I never knew that I liked kale until some came in our CSA box. Great variety- they try to make sure there's some fruit in the box every week in addition to the veggies. We've gotten apricots, little yellow plums, edamame, potatoes, etc. The family also owns the winery across the way and your farm admission bracelet gets you a free tasting.
